Enforcement: USA – Drop in seizures of counterfeit medicines

Despite a 38.1% increase in counterfeit seizures in the U.S. between 2012 and 2013, seizures of counterfeit medicines decreased.

Since 2008, counterfeit drugs seizures in the U.S showed a sharp increase. From 2012 to 2013 the first drop of 4% of the value of seizures related to pharmaceuticals and care of people goods marked a stop in this alarming rise. From 2011 to 2013, the value of seizures recorded dropped by 44%. Activism of the authorities, resolved to fight against this public health issue, and increased operations struggles implemented by customs are largely responsible for this step in the fight against counterfeit medicines in the U.S. India and China are the main providers for the U.S market of counterfeit medicines.
