According to the national chamber of the Mexican pharmaceutical industry, the trafficking of counterfeited medicines would generate more than 11.5 million pesos a year to the organized crime.
In spite of the efforts of the local authorities, closing 10 to 12 clandestine laboratories per year, the counterfeiting of medicines is a fast-growing sector in Latin America and especially in Mexico where 6 out of 10 medicines sold are believed to be illicit.
