Thanks to a Turkish Penal Code dated 2004, the counterfeiting is already being penalized in Turkey with an emprisonment of 5 years maximum under articles 186 & 187. In addition to this, the Turkish Republic had signed the Convention Medicrime of the Council of Europe regarding the counterfeit of medicinal products on 29 June 2012. The Council is encouraging and obliging the countries to execute serious precautions and legal/criminal sanctions against the counterfeit criminals.

The Turkish Parliament had already drafted a legislation to put in force but the law had not been approved yet, thus the law is not yet effective. To date, a draft law process seems under evaluation.
