Legislation: The Peru doubles down on anti-counterfeiting

The Ministry of Health is increasing financial support to anti-counterfeiting efforts by 116% (PEN 1.9 billon or EUR). Directorate General of Drug Supplies and Drugs (Dirección General de Medicamentos, Insumos y Drogasn, Digemid) general director Henry Rebaza says that roughly 10 tons of [fake] pharmaceutical products, including drugs, mostly antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Based on a 2016 study by the National Health Institute (Institutio Nacional de Salud), only one in three drugs contain an active ingredient. Counterfeiters favor tablets, injectables, pills, and syrups.
