Communication/Conferences: The five hidden poisons in counterfeit medicines

April 13th 2015 - www.safemedicines.org

Five types of poisons are hidden in counterfeit medicine: heavy metals, actual poisons, common household items, drugs you didn’t ask for or no drugs at all. Heavy metals (mercury, lead, arsenic, chromium, aluminum...) can, among other, be carcinogenic and toxic to central nervous system, kidneys and liver. The actual poisons (rat poison, boric acid …) may cause damage such as damage or kidney failure, cancer and developmental defects. Common household items (brick dust, floor wax, paint) can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, coma or death of the patient. Unwanted medications (aminotadalifil, xanthoanthrafil) can cause difficulty in breathing, high blood pressure and even stroke. Similarly, a medication without active ingredient in counterfeit medicine can be dangerous or even deadly.
