Communication/Conference: Sanofi's major international initiatives in the fight against counterfeit medicines

June 8th, 2016 - www.lehub.sanofi.com

Medical counterfeiting lurks in many corners: the internet, in African markets, even in the jackleg pharmacies of some developing countries. Counterfeiting is a worldwide problem affecting public health everywhere and causing hundreds of thousands of deaths every year.

It is for these reasons that major healthcare entities such as Sanofi join their forces with those of nations to find solutions to counterfeiting and ensure the shared goal of protecting the health of patients. Sanofi thus contributes to the yearly Operation Pangea coordinated by Interpol, by bringing its support to legislations deployed locally and internationally, such as the Medicrime Convention, implementing simple and effective means to strengthen the protection of its products, and, since 2008, analyzing suspicious products collected from numerous countries in its Central Anti-Counterfeiting Laboratory in Tours. The Sanofi Group also participates in numerous events and conferences across the globe to raise public awareness and knowledge on this growing bane.
