On 21 September 2017, Turkey became the eleventh State to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health, also known as the MEDICRIME Convention. The Convention will come into force in Turkey on 1 January 2018.


The MEDICRIME Convention is the first international treaty against the falsification of medical products and similar crimes. It offers a legal framework for worldwide cooperation in prosecuting pharmaceutical crimes posing a global threat to public health. Opened for signature and ratification since October 2011 to all the countries of the world, 27 Member States and non-Members have signed the MEDICRIME Convention, and 11 countries have ratified it.
