Legislation: MEDICRIME Convention is about to be signed by Benin

Benin Times

The MEDICRIME Convention is the first international treaty against falsification of medical products and similar crimes. It offers a legal framework for worldwide cooperation in prosecuting pharmaceutical crimes posing a global threat to public health. To date, 18 countries (member and non-member states of the Council of Europe) have signed the MEDICRIME Convention and 9 have ratified it.

In June 2017, the bill was adopted at the National Assembly of Benin for authorization to sign and ratify the MEDICRIME Convention of Council of Europe. According to Deputy Valère Tchobo, fake drugs are sold on the black market and in real pharmacies alike, and the convention should help in the fight against counterfeit drugs.
