According to a study conducted by PSI (Pharmaceutical Security Institute), a non-profit organization based in the US, India is the third country in the world with the most counterfeit medicines in 2014. Indeed, the number of counterfeit drug detected in 2014 is 239 and 8.4% of medicines made in India are fake and substandard. The two countries on topped the list before India are the US followed by China. As per industry experts, the global fake medicine industry generates a profit of $ 90 billion and causes the death of 1 million people per year. This phenomenon contributes to a rise in medicine resistance.
