A new labelling system, expected to resolve the problem of falsified medicines, should be implemented by 2019, revealed Mikhail Murashko, Head of Roszdravnadzor, the federal surveillance body. A testing phase started in six regions of the Russian Federation on February 1st, involving manufacturers, wholesale traders, and pharmacies. It will end on December 31st, 2017. According to Mikhail Murahshsko, although the number of counterfeit drugs sold in Russian pharmacies would have decreased by half since 2013, most of the medicines sold online would be falsified. Sergey Shulyak, General Director of DSM Group, a Russian company monitoring the Pharmaceutical sector in Russia and CIS Countries, delivered a different message, saying that the risk is the same both in usual pharmacies and online stores.
