A federal judge has invalidated a Maine’s law that allowed people to import prescription medicines from online pharmacies operating in Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. The two-year-old first-in-the nation law, known as the Maine Pharmacy Act, has been a closely watched flash point in the national debate about the cost of prescription drugs.
The motion against this law was brought by Maine’s different health associations on the ground that the practice “violates federal laws which were established to protect the public from unsafe medications” and exposing the Maine residents to “counterfeit medicines supplied by dubious overseas pharmacies”.
