According to an article from the website iciLome.com, fake anti-malaria and anti-tuberculosis would be the cause of 700,000 deaths per year worldwide which represent more than one death per minute. In Togo, medicines such as painkillers, cough suppressants, antibiotics and antimalarial are available in the streets. A program broadcast on the channel "Media Africa" revealed the method of manufacture paracetamol from cassava in some areas of the Prefecture of Kloto (Togo). The purchase of streets’ drugs shows that the local population does not have the reflex to go and buy medicines in a pharmacy. In addition, pharmacists mostly require a doctor's prescription to deliver the drug which discourages patients from going through the official channel.
