Communication / Conference: Fake drugs are leading to tens of thousands of deaths, WHO says

Reuters & WHO

"One in ten drugs sold in developing countries would be fake or substandard, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. Many African children are receiving ineffective treatments for pneumonia and malaria" reports Reuters from the World Health Organization (WHO) in late November. An alarming report for global public health.

WHO has received 1,500 reports of fake and low-quality products since 2013, with antimalarials and antibiotics being the most frequently reported categories. However, the problem extends to all treatments, from cancer drugs to contraceptive pills.
