Communication / Conference: Czech authorities worried by E-commerce of fake drugs

Fondation Chirac

E-commerce is a very popular practice in the Czech Republic, and people are increasingly making use of it to buy medicines. But in this country, as in others, fake medicines and falsified food supplements are acquiring an ever-greater number online, and seriously threatening patients’ health. Facing this growing phenomenon, the State Institute for Drug Control is launching an alert, encouraging the population to consult authorized and certified online pharmacies only. A specific website was created to inform patients about the involved risks, and to report fraudulent websites and suspicious remedies. According to the first analyses, many of them would come from Thailand, and would not be authorized to be sold in the Czech Republic.
