Communication / Conference: Creation of a system to curb the counterfeit drugs

Securing Industry

A new regulatory system (Caribbean Regulatory System, CRS) was established in the Carribean region to provide registration, product reviews and pharmacovigilance support to Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) members. The CRS was established by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), in collaboration with CARICOM, the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization, and with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The CRS should contribute to tackle the presence of counterfeit and substandard drugs in this region of 17 million people where, according to some reports, the counterfeit market share could reach 30% of the pharmaceutical market.
