The balance of US Customs reveals that counterfeit medicines appear third in the list of the ten main categories of the most seized goods. The year 2014 has 28 092 interceptions of counterfeit goods (28 212 in 2013) including 2 417 seizures of pharmaceuticals and personal care (2 215 in 2013), representing 9% of total seizures (8% in 2013). In the United States, counterfeiting is a crime characterized by the violation of intellectual property (trademark), industrial property (patent) and deceives the consumer.
