From May 26th to June 4th was conducted the Biyela 2 operation by the World Customs Organization and the Anti-counterfeiting Drug Research Institute (IRACM) on the African continent. This operation led to the interception and the seizure of more than 113 million of counterfeited and illegal pharmaceutical products in 122 intercepted containers.

This operation was conducted in 15 major ports of the African continent, the Benin being the country suffering the most from counterfeited medicines and representing over 49% of the total amount of the seized products, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo just behind, representing respectively 24% and 11% of the total amount of the seized products.

Of these 113 million counterfeited medicines, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tuberculosis are the most present, corresponding to 2/3 of the confiscated medicines.
