Dimitrij Selkov, a Russian national, was sentenced to jail and was ordered to pay a fine, after pleading guilty to an offense under Section 9 (1) of the Fraud Act 2006, participating in fraudulent business carried on by sole trader. Dimitrij Selkov sold on the internet falsified versions of the Viagra drug, used for erectile dysfunction and the Misoprostol drug, used to perform a surgical or medical abortion. The law required that the Misoprostol drug be supplied through a UK registered facility (hospital or clinic). The court ordered all drugs to be destroyed in order to limit the negative effects fake drugs could have on the health of consumers.
