Communication/Conferences: 30% of antimalarial medicines are substandard

December 1st 2014 - www.iracm.com

The latest results of the WorldWide Antimalarial Resist Network (WWARN) revealed that 30% of medicines against malaria failed the quality tests and that 39% of those medicines were falsified.
Fake malaria treatments represent a real danger for public health because of the substandard dosage of active ingredient, too low to fight against the disease but just enough to allow the development of resistant strains.
