Communication/Conferences: 17 scientific studies talk about the “global pandemic” provoked by fake and low quality medicine

According to researchers, the persistent counterfeit of substandard medicines, in the poor countries, threatens the fight and the scientific efforts made for decades against malaria, HIV / AIDS and other serious illnesses. The professor of public health of the University of North Carolina, Jim Herrington, specifies that this pandemic is omnipresent and underestimated. This one is more particularly virulent in countries with low or middle incomes in which the regulations are weak or non-existent. Scientific articles, financed partially by the foundation Bill and Melinda Gates, indicate that the number African children’s death, attributable to low quality or fake anti malaria medicine, in 2013, is 122 000. Besides, other studies show that 41 % of anti-malaria and anti-tuberculosis fake to meet quality specifications. In spite of the various investigations giving indicators of the scale of the problem, it remains impossible to determine to what extent counterfeit medicines are omnipresent. We suppose that falsified medicine represents approximately 75 billion dollars annually. This problem affects the poor countries in which raged malaria and other infectious diseases but also medicines against cancer, cardiovascular diseases and others serious illnesses. THE WHO (World Health Organization) works actively to dislodge the criminal networks.
