Enforcement: 10 years of prison for having sold a counterfeit syrup leading to the death of hundreds of children

A court sentenced three Bangladeshi on July 22, 2014, in Dhaka to a penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment for producing and selling a toxic paracetamol syrup that killed hundreds of children in the 90s. They have been accused of replacing syrup’s ingredient with a cheaper alternative (diethylene glycol) used in leather dyeing industry. More than 300 children died from renal failure.
